Music plays an enormous part in the life of Manly Campus. In the tabs below you can find information about the music curriculum.
Music outside the classroom
Ensembles
There are several ensembles students can be involved in within the Manly Selective School Community from Big Band, to Symphonic Wind, String Ensemble and Vocal Ensemble. These groups regularly tour and are involved in competitions as well as becoming involved in various performance opportunities. Students wishing to be involved in instrumental ensembles should contact the band committee and those wanting to be in a vocal ensemble contact their classroom music teacher for more information.
Excursions
There are excursion opportunities throughout the year, and are chosen based on current curriculum focus, for example, a Musical for stage 5 students and an orchestral concert for stage 4.
Incursions
Senior students are also given many opportunities to perform or refine their composition and musicology skills with incursions being held throughout the year. Highlights include master classes with international performers, HSC workshops with senior markers and participating in a college run Music Day.
Performance nights
Students who take elective or senior music are asked to perform for their peers and parents at several performance nights to improve their technical fluency, demonstrate stylistic interpretation, personal expression and ensemble communication. Some of these performance nights include masterclasses with special guests.
