PRAXIS project

Our final PRAXIS project for 2016 reached its conclusion with students pitching their project concepts to a panel of experts.

The question was:  "How can video games nurture empathy and transform society for the better?"  Students were required to research a range of resources and strategies to discover issues which negatively impact on our communities and then investigate a range of social justice issues, as well as game ideas. They then shared their ideas and concepts, selected an idea on which they could all work and document the processes through which they worked. Their final tasks included forming a concept for a game and the creation of a web site highlighting their social issue and how a computer game might help to address that issue, as well as pitching their concept to a panel of experts in front of an audience of students, parents and teachers.

The PRAXIS project aims to draw learning from many curriculum areas so that students are applying their knowledge to an authentic experience. They are given an opportunity to identify a social issue of concern to them and proceed to do something about it.

Student evaluations of the PRAXIS project have been so positive this year that in 2017, each Year 7 class will have timetabled sessions throughout the week to participate in this authentic, cross curricular learning experience. We are very much looking forward to its expansion within our school.
