One of the delightful programs running in our campus grounds is Bushcare, which aims to regenerate the bushland at the top of the oval.
For the last 4 years, workers with an intellectual disability from Northside Enterprices Inc have joined wonderful Manly parents from 9.30am to 2 pm on Mondays 16 days during the year to weed and also encourage the native plants growing in the bushland at the back of the oval.
After all the rain over the school holidays they have been kept busy removing paspalum, Cobbler's Peg, Sida and Acetosa tubers. In the planted areas they are getting good regeneration within planted area – with native species, Commelina and Dianella.
This term Bushcare will operate on Mondays 4/5, 25/5 & 22/6 and these dates will be advertised regularly in The Weekly Pines.
Do consider joining the group, it's social as well as satisfying! All you need is appropriate clothing, closed shoes, gloves and water. No obligation to the number of sessions or amount of time spent as Bushlink are on site anyway.
