Year 12 student Belinda Feng has taken out a major prize at the University of Wollongong's annual Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences' Senior High School Technology Competition.
Belinda's HSC Design and Technology project focused on the Village Green Playground at Sydney Olympic Park. Her aim was to redesign the playground such that it would be suitable for all children including those with Cerebral Palsy and those with mobility and movement difficulties.
Her design examined the site and play equipment ensuring both were accessible to all children and potential users. It focused on providing opportunities for interaction between children, the development of physical skills, and meeting the Australian Safety Standards. Where possible, equipment and materials used in the landscape were from sustained and recycled origins.
Belinda will be presented with her award at a ceremony recognising student achievement on Friday 21 November 2014 at the University of Wollongong. Thanks to Mr David Martin of Sydney Olympic Park Authority, Melanie Turner from the Cerebral Palsy Alliance and Mrs Michelle Cooper for providing feedback and support to Belinda throughout the process.
